About the Museum

Mission

Camden County Historical Society’s Historic School house museum is located in the Lake of the Ozarks. We are dedicated to preserving the history of Yesterday, Today, & Tomorrow. The business and purpose of this corporation shall be to bring together those people interested in history, and especially in the history of Camden County, Missouri. Understanding the history of our community is basic to our democratic way of life, gives us a better understanding of our state and nation, and promotes a better appreciation of our American heritage.

Founding

At the June 1962 meeting of the Linn Creek School Alumni there was some discussion about the need for a Historical Society to preserve the history of the county.  Much interest was shown and most of the alumni agreed that heritage should be preserved.  This was how the Camden County Historical Society was born.

The organization was planned to be countywide and persons from all parts of the county were urged to join and support the society.  Membership dues were set at $1.00.  At first the Historical Society met at the Court House in Camdenton and then in the basement of the Episcopal Church.  Then they were able to obtain the lower floor of the old Fellows Hall in Linn Creek.

The Historical Society now meets regularly in their permanent home, the former Linn Creek School House, now the Camden County Museum.  The society meets on the third Monday of each month, March through November.  The evening opens with a pot luck supper followed by the speaker for the evening, and a short business meeting.  Everyone is welcomed.
